A big welcome to this year’s Studio Institute intern, Beth Gebresilasie! As the Harpo Foundation’s Archive Management and Editorial Research Intern, Beth will be supporting the planning and concept development of a print publication about Harpo’s founder, visual artist Ed Levine.

Beth is an experimenter aiming to channel their skills for social good. They are the Director of Iyapo Repository, a futuristic speculative design project. Recently, they finished their education at NYU Gallatin where they studied Suffering (Anthropologically, Philosophically, and through Art History). Originally from Eritrea, Beth moved to the U.S. when they were 12 years old. Given the opportunities available in the arts in NYC, Beth was able to develop their interest in art in tangible ways through programs at MoMA and the Cooper Union Saturday Program. They were also a part of the Moth High School Storytelling program where they developed storytelling as a skill and presented their story at the Bell House. They have interned at several institutions including Wave Hill, Creative Time, and the Metropolitan Museum of Art in education, programming, and curatorial departments. In 2023, they curated two shows, “Neurosis” at artist-run online exhibition space Project Gallery, and “Sensitivity” at The Gallatin Galleries.

We look forward to incorporating Beth’s considerable skills and insights into the research and development of the legacy of our founder, Ed Levine.
