Born and raised in Tehran, Iran, visual artist and filmmaker Parisa Ghaderi’s move to the United States in 2009 revealed to her the in-between state—never fully having arrived and never fully having left—that greatly influences her work. Gharderi addresses emotional and physical distance, compounded loss, and the opacity of language. Using photography and video, she explores moments of pause that are filled with vulnerability, silence, and contradiction. Parisa Ghaderi was awarded the Emerging Artist Residency Fellow and will spend time at the Santa Fe Art Institute in 2019 to develop new work.
